Spark and Thompson Win at Oulton

2012 season gets off to a great start with two action packed races at Oulton Park

The 2012 season got off to a great start with two action packed races in the spring sunshine at Oulton Park in Cheshire. A large crowd was treated to two typically Mini 10 lap encounters with action all the way from start to finish.

In the Mini Se7ens, reigning champion Paul Spark too the first pole position of the year, notching up the first point towards the Saffron Insurance Services Pole Position award of £500 at the end of the year.  At the start Spark was bounced by his arch rival Andrew Deviny and then he came under pressure from Gareth Hunt.  However Spark fought back and got on terms with Deviny, and hit the front on the penultimate lap.  He held on as Deviny struggled with tyre wear and Paul Spark crossed the line to take the first chequered flag of the year.  Gareth Hunt had a great fight with James Coulson and Damon Astin to claim the final step on the podium.

In the Miglia encounter 2010 Champion Paul Thompson took pole position and then led from start to finish to claim his first victory since Spa last year.  Behind Thompson a great battle raged between Kane Astin and Colin Peacock, with Richard Casey and Tony Le May also joining in the fun for the opening laps.  Astin and Peacock were fighting hard but a lunge at the Chicane from Peacock forced Astin to take the grass.  However no advantage was deemed to have been gained and the battle royale was rejoined until the chequered flag was waved.
