Ready to Rock for Round 2

It’s almost time for Round 2 of the Dunlop Mini Se7en and Miglia Challenges supported by Mini Sport, as this weekend we head to the midlands racing mecca of Rockingham. Across two days our Minis will be roaring around the International Super Sportscar Circuit; characterised by long straights, 7 degree banking and technical infield sections, this fast ribbon of tarmac will provide a serious test of both car and driver endurance.

A chance of rain could inject some uncertainty into qualifying at 11.30 on Saturday, where the slightest error in slippery conditions could mean the difference between pole and last on the grid. Current weather predictions for Sunday show that the going should be good come race time: 13:45 for the Se7ens and 15:25 for the Miglias.

We go into the second race of 2013 after a thrilling season’s opener at Donington in mid-April, where a 19 car grid fought for the victory in the Se7ens. Qualifying saw a hard won pole position for three-time champion Paul Spark in the #1, but after 10 close fought laps it was Max Hunter’s #46 car that took the chequered flag by just a quarter of a second. However, after the race Hunter was judged to have contravened driving standards and received a ten second penalty from the stewards, leaving him second and setting the scene for an exciting rematch at Rockingham.

In the Miglias it was a flying start to the season for #11 Kane Astin, winning the race from 2nd on the grid and eking out a two second lead from 2012 champion Peter Baldwin’s #1 in the process. After Baldwin’s domination of last year’s competition, the rest of the class will be anxious to gain as much ground as possible.
