18/07/2010

Dunlop Mini Miglia Challenge - Round 6
Castle Combe - 18 July 2010

Paul Thompson fought through from 4th on the grid to win Round 6 of the Dunlop Mini Miglia Challenege at Castle Combe.  Reigning Mini Se7en Champion Kane Astin scored another pole position in qualifying with 2009 Miglia Novice Champion Dave Drew lining up alongside him for the 10 lap race.  Astin got a good start but had Dave Drew, Sarah Munns and Paul Thompson tucked up behind him at the end of the opening lap.  Drew made his move on lap 2 to take the lead, which he held for just two laps before Thompson moved ahead of both Drew and Astin as Sarah Munns dropped out of contention.  Thompson held off the challenge of his two nearest rivals while Astin moved ahead of Drew for second on lap 7.  Astin bided his time until lap 9 when he got back into the lead but couldn't hold off Thompson's challenge on the last lap and it was Paul Thompson who took the chequered flag just 0.2 seconds ahead of Kane Astin, with Dave Drew in 3rd just 0.8 seconds behind the leader.  Mark Sims and Colin Peacock were 4th and 5th respectively and the top 5 car were covered by just over 2 seconds at the end of the 10 lap race.
