| On Sunday 18 July Round 6 of the 12 Round Dunlop Mini Se7en and Dunlop Mini Miglia Challenges will take place at Castle Combe in Wiltshire.
This year is a special year for the Dunlop Mini Miglia Challenge, celebrating 40 years of door-to-door racing action at every turn. The larger brother to the Mini Se7en was conceived in 1970, four years after the smaller engined class, and was an immediate success.
After five races in the twelve round championship Niven Burge holds a slender one point lead over reigning Mini Se7en Champion Kane Astin, who has three wins to his credit this season. Paul Thompson, Colin Peacock, Dave Drew, Mark Sims and Sarah Munns are all snapping at the heals of the leading duo.
Paul Spark has a slightly larger gap at the head of the Mini Se7en championship table, holding a 13 point advantage over Ian Deviny and Nathan Burge. Spark has five podiums from five starts in 2010, including two wins, and will be looking to add to this tally at Castle Combe.
Castle Combe 2009 In 2009 Andy Hack won the nine lap race that finished behind the safety car as the track became flooded after a big rain storm. Eventual champion Andy Hack had a poor start and had to climb back up the order and he passed Paul Thompson for the lead just as the Safety Car was deployed. An overjoyed Sarah Munns finished third, her first ever Miglia podium finish.
The conditions for the earlier Se7en’s race last year were better than fro the Miglias but the track was still slippery. Max Hunter returned to winning ways, fighting his way through to the front from 6th on the grid. Hunter was chased all the way to the flag by Father and Son duo Niv and Nath Burge, with the younger Burge being pipped for the final podium spot by Kane Astin.
