EVENT PREVIEW: Mini Adventure to Wales
15/06/2010

The Dunlop Mini Miglia and Mini Se7en Challenges will soon head across the Severn Bridge for their first visit to Wales since 2008 for Rounds 4 & 5 of the 12 round series on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 June.  Now in its 45th season, the Dunlop Mini Se7en Challenge is still providing some of the best club motorsport action anywhere in the UK, while the Mini Miglias, which are celebrating 40 years at the top in 2010, are also keeping up the family tradition of door-to-door racing action at every turn.

Two years ago Paul Thompson and Kane Astin were the Mini Se7en winners, with eventual champion Thompson missing out on a double win thanks to a clutch failure on the warm up lap of the second race of the weekend.   In the Miglia camp Ralph Saunders was a popular winner scoring his first ever Miglia victory while Andy Hack returned to winning ways in the second race to record his first win of his second championship winning season, with Colin Peacock and Ralph Saunders filling the other podium places.

Last month at Snetterton, the first double header of the 2010 season, proved to be a happy one for reigning Mini Se7en Champion Kane Astin as he scored two wins from two pole positions.  The contrast in the weather couldn't have been more different with Saturday cold and wet, while Sunday was dry and a bit warmer.  Astin scored his debut wins in the category from the front in both races, holding an 11 second lead over Endaf Owens and Niven Burge in the very tricky conditions in race 1.  Race 2 was a much closer affair with Astin taking the chequered flag just 0.6 seconds ahead of Colin Peacock and Tony Le May, with the top six cars covered by just 1.8 seconds at the end of the 10 lap race.

The changeable weather failed to upset the status quo in the Dunlop Mini Se7en Challenge with 2007 Champion Max Hunter adding a win to his season tally in difficult conditions on Saturday from 5th on the grid.  Hunter finished a massive 13 seconds ahead of Paul Spark, with former S Class Champion Nathan Burge holding on to take his first ever overall podium.  Round 1 winner Andrew Deviny had a torrid time on Saturday but bounced back to win Round 3 in the dry, finishing 4 seconds ahead of brother Ian, with Paul Spark scoring his third podium finish from three starts.
